The Registrar of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporations, Ms Tricia Stroud has today placed the Bularnu Waluwarra Wangkayujuru Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC under special administration.
The corporation was registered on 31 January 2012 and is responsible for managing the native title rights and interests of the Bularnu Waluwarra Wangkayujuru. The corporation’s registered document access address is in Mount Isa, Queensland.
In February 2023 an examination of the corporation’s books was conducted under section 453-1 of the CATSI Act. The examination identified serious concerns with respect to the standard of corporate governance of the corporation.
Following a show cause notice procedure (as per section 487-10 of the CATSI Act), the Registrar determined that there were sufficient grounds under section 487-5 of the CATSI Act to place the corporation under special administration. Special administration will provide intensive regulatory assistance to address these governance issues.
Mr Anthony Beven and Mr Tony Jonsson from Grant Thornton have been appointed as the joint and several special administrators until 22 December 2023.
The appointment means the board have been vacated and the special administrators will conduct the affairs of the corporation.
