Regulatory approach, priorities, policies and positions

ORIC has a range of corporate documents that set our regulatory approach and priorities.

  • ORIC's regulatory compliance framework outlines our approach to using the range of powers and functions to ensure compliance with the CATSI Act
  • Registrar's regulatory posture sets out which legislative obligations and areas are in focus for regulatory action
  • ORIC's corporate plan 2024–2027 sets out our vision, values and strategic framework.
  • Our customer service charter explains our values and commitment to customers, and our focus on building a culture of self-regulation, support and consistent, reasonable and proportionate use of regulatory powers.
  • Policy statements govern and support our day-to-day operations and decision-making.
  • Position statements are a declaration of the Registrar's stance on a specific issue, clarifying our views and expectations.
  • We have memorandums of understanding to establish mutual goals and expectations regarding a cooperative regulatory relationship or specific project or initiative.

Minister's statement of expectations

In June 2026, the Minister for Indigenous Australians, Senator the Hon Malarndirri McCarthy, wrote to the Registrar outlining her expectations of the Registrar and ORIC. The statement complements the Registrar’s functions, powers and obligations as an independent statutory officeholder administering the CATSI Act.
