Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service Aboriginal Corporation (ICN 1956)
Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service (PAMS) is an Aboriginal community controlled health service located in the East Pilbara region, delivering services in communities located in the Great Sandy, Little Sandy and Gibson deserts. We provide culturally responsive and appropriate, fully comprehensive primary health care services in communities of Jigalong, Parnngurr, Punmu, Kunawarritji and Newman.
PAMS clinics are run by skilled health practitioners in partnership with doctors, registered nurses, allied health professionals, wellbeing workers and visiting specialists. There is a strong emphasis on the early detection and prevention of chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and some cancers.
PAMS is registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission as a community-based, not-for-profit, tax-exempt organisation with public benefit institution and gift deductibility status. It employs an independent auditor in accordance with its rules and regulations.
Job description/overview
PAMS is seeking to appoint 2 independent directors who can contribute strategically to the governance and ongoing success of the organisation.
We are seeking applicants with strong strategic and governance capability and a clear commitment to advancing health equity. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping board direction, with a focus on driving prevention, influencing systems reform, and strengthening community-led solutions, while addressing the social, cultural, economic and environmental factors that determine health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Applicants should possess experience and/or expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing
- preventative health and health promotion
- social determinants of health
- community development and empowerment
- public policy and systems reform
- Aboriginal community-controlled sectors
- governance, strategy, and organisational leadership
- cross-sector collaboration and partnership development.
Eligibility
Applicants should demonstrate:
- previous board or governance experience (preferred)
- strategic and analytical capability
- strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- an understanding of the challenges and opportunities relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait health equity
- a commitment to ethical, accountable, and culturally respectful governance.
