Bawinanga Homelands Aboriginal Corporation based in Maningrida NT, West Arnhem Land is seeking an experienced and dedicated Independent Director to join its Board of Directors.

We are seeking applicants who are passionate about contributing to the development and prosperity of remote Aboriginal communities and adding value to a unique and dynamic organisation established in 1973 to provide services to and advocate for residents of Maningrida Homelands.

Job description/overview

What you can expect

You will play a crucial role in providing strategic professional guidance and oversight to BHAC, ensuring its continued success and adherence to best governance practices. You can expect:

  • Engagement with diverse communities and workplaces rich in living Aboriginal culture.
  • Monitoring financial performance, risk management strategies, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Contributing expertise, insights, and guidance to uphold BHAC mission and objectives.
  • Board meetings held throughout the year, with frequency varying annually.
  • Flexibility to attend meetings online via Microsoft Teams.

Selection criteria

We are seeking individuals who:

  • Share our vision of being a leading Indigenous Homelands service delivery and business organisation, driven by local people for local people, recognised for our innovation and commitment to best practices.
  • Can contribute to a strong, high-performing Aboriginal community-controlled board
  • Have governance experience or expertise in areas such as finance, law, corporate governance, community development or strategic leadership.
  • Demonstrate a genuine commitment to Aboriginal self-determination and culturally respectful engagement.

Qualified candidates are invited to submit their Expressions of interest including a CV outlining their relevant experience, qualifications, and reasons for their interest in serving on the BHAC Board of Directors by COB 16 March 2026. 

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by the Board.
