Job description/overview

About the Role

We are looking for a CEO to lead NAC through its next phase.

This role requires a steady leader who can bring people together, create alignment, and provide clear direction. You will work closely with the Board, community members and external stakeholders to strengthen operations, build alignment, and position the organisation for the future.

The position requires a balance of strategic thinking and operational leadership. You will oversee the day to day operations of the organisation while supporting broader long term objectives around governance, community outcomes, commercial opportunities, heritage protection, and sustainable development.

NAC operates in a complex environment requiring sound judgement, resilience, cultural awareness, and the ability to manage competing priorities and stakeholder expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership across the organisation.
  • Work closely with the Board to implement organisational priorities and support effective governance.
  • Build strong relationships with members, Traditional Owners, government, industry partners and key stakeholders.
  • Support the development and delivery of commercial, community and land-related initiatives.
  • Drive organisational accountability, compliance and financial sustainability.
  • Lead and support employees to foster a positive, culturally respectful and accountable workplace culture.
  • Strengthen internal systems, reporting and operational processes.
  • Represent NAC professionally across community, government and corporate engagements.

About You

You will be an experienced executive leader with strong commercial and governance acumen and the ability to operate effectively within a community-focused environment.

You will ideally bring:

  • Previous CEO, executive or senior leadership experience.
  • Strong understanding of governance, compliance and organisational leadership.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal organisations, Traditional Owner groups, Native Title matters, or community-focused organisations.
  • Strong commercial capability, including exposure to contracts, partnerships, projects or economic development initiatives.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • The ability to navigate complex and sensitive environments with professionalism and sound judgement.
  • Financial management and operational leadership experience.
  • A collaborative and pragmatic leadership style.

What’s on Offer

  • Opportunity to lead an organisation with significant cultural and community importance.
  • Ability to contribute to long-term outcomes for Ngarluma people.
  • Competitive remuneration package.
  • Relocation assistance available.
  • Housing support may be considered.
  • Vehicle included depending on candidate circumstances.
  • Salary packaging opportunities.
  • Professional development opportunities.
