Special administration start – Greater Western Aboriginal Corporation Health Service
The Registrar of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporations, Ms Tricia Stroud, placed the Greater Western Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (ICN 11850) (GWACHS) under special administration on Monday 11 May 2026.
GWACHS was recently registered under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (CATSI Act) for the purpose of operating the Aboriginal medical service currently known as Greater Western Aboriginal Health Service. This service delivers healthcare across Greater Western Sydney, the Nepean region, and the Blue Mountains.
At present, these services are delivered by the Wellington Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (ICN 792) (WACHS), which was placed under special administration in August 2025. Throughout the special administration of WACHS, strong community support has emerged from stakeholders in both Wellington and Greater Western Sydney for the demerger of WACHS’ operations.
With the support of WACHS’ funding bodies, it is proposed that the demerger will take effect from 1 July 2026, resulting in:
• WACHS providing services in Wellington and Dubbo
• GWACHS providing services in Greater Western Sydney, Nepean, and the Blue Mountains.
On 30 April 2026, the sole director of GWACHS formally requested that the corporation be placed under special administration to support completion of the demerger process.
Following careful consideration, the Registrar has appointed the existing special administrators of WACHS to also administer GWACHS. This approach is intended to ensure the demerger is completed in the most efficient and cost-effective manner, while maintaining continuity of service delivery.
Mr Matthew Mullen and Mr Anthony Jonsson have been appointed as joint and several special administrators of GWACHS until 14 August 2026.
