Special administration end - First People of the Millewa-Mallee Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC

Announcement
Special administration

The Registrar of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporations, Ms Tricia Stroud, has today ended the special administration of the First People of the Millewa-Mallee Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (FPMMAC), returning the corporation to member control.

FPMMAC was placed under special administration on 17 December 2024, which was extended twice.

For the 6 months before the special administration began, the corporation was running at a loss of $2.89 million; its financial accounts were such they were unable to be audited. The special administrators were able to restore financial viability by turning a surplus of $1.98 million for the next 6 months. The financial accounts were rectified and audits completed for both the 2024 and 2025 financial years.

In July 2025 the corporation took on new functions and responsibilities when it became a registered native title body corporate. The Federal Court of Australia handed down a native title determination naming the corporation as the prescribed body corporate to manage the native title rights and interests for the Ngintait, Latji Latji and Nyeri Nyeri.

Following special administration, the corporation will be required to provide additional reporting to ORIC for a period. This will assist ORIC in monitoring the corporation’s governance and providing support where appropriate.
