ORIC can collaborate with you to design and deliver a one-off training workshop or a longer-term support and mentoring plan to assist your board achieve particular learning and development goals or address a specific challenge you're facing.
Depending on what you want to achieve and your circumstances, a workshop might be in-person or online; a support and mentoring plan will involve a series of interactions and activities which may be in-person, by video call or phone.
You identify what you'll learn
You might have a board development plan to guide your learning needs, or have used our Healthy Corporation Checklist to identify goals or perhaps you want to work on matters raised in an examination by ORIC (a management letter or compliance notice). We'll be guided by your learning needs.
Some of our standard modules available are:
- corporate governance structures
- directors and the separation of responsibilities
- financial management
- meetings
- members
- planning
- decision-making
- dispute resolution
Who is it for?
These workshops are usually designed to be run with a board of directors and senior staff from a single corporation but they can also be designed for a group of corporations.
Length
Depending on your circumstances and content to be covered these workshops can be designed to run for a couple of hours, a full day or multiple days.
Costs
We cover the costs of designing and delivering the training, and any travel of our trainers if required.
We require the corporation or group to arrange and cover the costs of a venue (usually at a corporation’s premises or within their community) and provide catering as required.
How to start a discussion with ORIC about your learning needs
ORIC has a finite budget and cannot meet all requests for training. If the reason you want training is because you are new to the role or you aren't quite sure what you want please first try our workshop on Corporate governance for Indigenous corporations or see our range of single-topic workshops.
