Announcement: Special administration end - Bularnu Waluwarra Wangkayujuru Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC

The Bularnu Waluwarra Wangkayujuru Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (BWW) is no longer under special administration. The Registrar of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporations, Tricia Stroud has returned the corporation to control of its members.

A new board of 6 directors has been appointed. It has been structured on a representative model, with 2 representatives for each of the 3 clan groups. The board assumed their duties from 11:59 pm on 12 July 2024. All of these directors served in the special administrators’ advisory group during the administration.

The Registrar placed BWW under special administration on 20 June 2023. This decision was taken after an examination of BWW’s books identified serious concerns about corporate governance standards.

While in special administration BWW resumed its primary objective of holding and managing the native title rights and interests of Bularnu Waluwarra Wangkayujuru common law holders.

The special administrators secured new income streams, office space and a part-time PBC administration officer. The corporation recommenced operations such as cultural heritage surveying and monitoring. The corporation is also now managing future act notices and issuing invoices to proponents which will assist the financial health of the corporation.

The corporation is now in the hands its members in a healthier position.

The Registrar will require the corporation to lodge additional reports for a period to assist monitoring the corporation’s affairs.
