The Registrar of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporations, Ms Tricia Stroud has today placed the Bunurong Land Council (Aboriginal Corporation) under special administration.
The corporation was registered on 30 June 2000 and its registered document access address is in Frankston, Victoria. The corporation is an appointed Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP) and has had cultural heritage responsibilities under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic) over its appointed area.
In March 2023, an examination of the corporation’s books was conducted under section 453-1 of the CATSI Act. The examination identified serious concerns with respect to the standard of corporate governance of the corporation.
Following a show cause notice procedure (as per section 487-10 of the CATSI Act), the Registrar determined that there were sufficient grounds under section 487-5 of the CATSI Act to place the corporation under special administration. Special administration will provide intensive regulatory assistance to address these governance issues.
Mr Peter McQuoid from PDM Consultancy has been appointed as the special administrator until 15 March 2024.
The appointment means the board have been vacated and the special administrators will conduct the affairs of the corporation.
