Job description/overview: 

The Miwatj board of directors represents Aboriginal communities across the region and is dedicated to ensuring that decisions made in the oversight of the organisation help to improve the health, emotional and cultural well-being of the whole community and enable and empower Yolnu to take control of their lives and direct their own futures.

Miwatj board capability has been strengthened for some years by the addition of independent directors appointed for their corporate governance expertise. Miwatj is now recruiting new independents to replace outgoing directors who have reached the end of their term.

Expressions of interest are invited from experienced executives motivated to contribute as specialist independent directors to the leadership and commercial oversight of Miwatj in its important role in improving the health and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the region.

Prior board experience is preferred and persons with experience and/or interest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health are encouraged to apply. Professional backgrounds in finance, legal, clinical or business disciplines will be highly regarded. Independent directors will be expected to demonstrate and promote a strong understanding of the role of the board, the executive and stakeholder partners in the strategic and commercial oversight of the organisation.

Modest sitting fees are available for these directorships and expenses are provided.
