South West Native Title Settlement

The South West Native Title Settlement (Settlement) comprises the full and final resolution of all native title claims in the South West of Western Australia, in exchange for a package of benefits, which will eventually be held and managed within the Noongar Boodja Trust (Trust). The Settlement involves around 30,000 Noongar people who will be represented by six Noongar Regional Corporations (RCs) and the Central Services Corporation (CSC).

Committee Purpose:
The Interim Pre-Qualification Committee is being established to prequalify candidates for appointment as directors on the boards of the Nominee RCs and Nominee CSC before the Trust is established.

The Committee will be convened in April 2016 and continue until the Trust is established and formally appoints a Nominations Committee. It is anticipated that the Trust will be established by late 2016.

Salary and conditions: 

None

This is a voluntary position, no remuneration is payable.

Job description/overview: 

The Government of Western Australia (State) and the South West Aboriginal Land and Sea Council (SWALSC) are calling for nominations for two Noongar community members and two independent persons to join the Interim Pre-Qualification Committee (Committee). The Committee is being established to prequalify candidates for appointment as directors on the boards of the Nominee Noongar Regional Corporations and Nominee Central Services Corporation before the Noongar Boodja Trust is formally established.

The Committee will:
- Assist SWALSC or the Nominee RCs or CSC calling for nominations for the appointment of directors, specifying the
form in which applications should be made and considering the eligibility of candidates.
- Review and comment on selection processes of any pre-selected candidates
- Make inquiries and investigations to confirm eligibility of candidates
- Provide short list of pre-qualified eligible candidates
- Create a transparent and fair process for applicants to apply and be pre-qualified for positions
