Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC) is a not-for-profit government grant and service agreement funded Aboriginal Corporation based in West Kalimna, East Gippsland. Through a diverse range of programs, GLaWAC provides works to manage, protect and restore the precious natural resources of the native title regions of Gunaikurnai land and waters.

Job description/overview: 

Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC) represents traditional owners from the family clans who were recognised in the native title consent determination made under the Traditional Owner Settlement Act 2010. GLaWAC is the prescribed body corporate (PBC) for the Gunaikurnai people and claim area and registered Aboriginal party (RAP) providing joint management of 10 parks and reserves within the Gippsland region of Victoria.

GLaWAC seeks to appoint a new chief executive officer, reporting to the board, to strengthen the leadership, governance, financial performance and strategic development of the organisation and to pursue financial sustainability through the incubation of new business ventures for the Gunaikurnai people.

Expressions of interest are invited from experienced executives motivated to drive the strategic success and financial development of the organisation. Applicant skills and experience sought include:

» five years’ experience in a senior leadership position, ideally at CEO level, with understanding of board function, governance, statutory compliance and reporting

» experience in the management of a government-funded and/or not-for-profit body delivering community services

» experience in relationship management and development at a senior level with partnership agencies and community bodies

» strong financial management skills, including financial reporting and strategic operational decisions based on financial data and the delivery of operations within budget guidelines

» strategic approach with the vision to seek and identify entrepreneurial business incubation opportunities providing revenue, engagement, employment, training and development

» proven team-building, motivation and management skills

» strong public relations, communication, presentation and negotiation abilities

» tertiary-level qualifications in commerce, business, finance or other relevant discipline.
